Did all that thank you. Apparently something to do with updates being too much for my old pc. Local shop has had loads of people take theirs in! Thank goodness for the laptop, but thank you.

If problem still happening - restart computer and when all the white writing comes up keep pressing F8 which will then present a list of options on your screen.

Choose last working condition and hopefully this will resolve problem. If it does - great!!!! Also [a bit techy] - on your screen click my computer - right click your C:\ hard drive and left click properties - then click on Defrag and then click on analyse and only choose defrag if XP tells you it needs it as this will clear your confused computer after its unexpected shut down.
